The concept of a "combine" has been around since the early 1960's when professional football teams competing in the National Football Legaue pooled scouting resources and shared basic information in an attempt to save time and money evaluating college players eligible for the annual NFL draft. The combine idea has evolved somewhat in the years since it was first formed but, as a concept, had been mostly confined to the National Football League. In 2007, the Tampa Bay Fire, building on the testing and evaluation principles established by the NFL, established the Annual Tampa Bay Lacrosse Combine.
In pioneering the first lacrosse-specific combine offered at virtually any level in the United States, the Tampa Bay Fire applied the concept to organize the evaluation and selection of Tampa Bay area lacrosse players interested in competing at the elite level ( U-11/U-13/U-15/U-17/U-19). Our Combine has not only grown in stature and recognition, but with this years' exciting innovations, now incorporates performance-based testing and measurement in addition to the standard skills assessment component of the evaluation and selection process. Importantly, athletic performance is now an integral component of the Fire's player evaluation and development program; and performance testing is central to assessing progress towards individual player goals and objectives.
All players interested in playing for the Tampa Bay Fire are expected to participate in and attend the Combine in order to be selected to any of the 2010 teams.
The 5th Annual 2010 Tampa Bay Lacrosse Combine will be held on Saturday, December 11th and Sunday, December 12th, 2009.

Each year's Combine consists of two (2) distinct player evaluation components:
The Tampa Bay Fire was the first elite lacrosse club nationally to use performance testing to evaluate the athletic performance of players. The goal of our performance training/tesing/physical conditioning program is to expand the athletic potential of each player by enhancing overall athleticism. Relying on the latest in performance training scientific research, our experts have created a uniquely harmonized performance enhancement program that is dedicated to achieving athletic excellence and maximizing athletic potential.
Since athletic performance is considered an important component of the Fire's Player Development System (PDS), considerable weight is given to each player's athletic performance results derived during the testing phase of the Combine.
