Coach Code of Conduct

The Fire Lacrosse Club considers the coach to be the most vital member of our organization since, more than any other individual, they determine the kind of experience our athletes have with the sport.  As an organization, the Fire Lacrosse Club is committed to the principles of positive coaching and we expect our coaches to balance the pressures of winning with the philosophies, goals and objectives of developing a player’s skill level, learning invaluable “life lessons”, and establishing positive character traits from participation in sports.

As a coach for the Fire Lacrosse Club, we expect that you will:

  • Model and teach our players to honor the great game of lacrosse by teaching and emphasizing respect for rules, the sport's history and traditions, our opponents, officials/referees, and teammates.
  • Help players redefine “winning” in terms of mastery, not just the outcome of the game and the final score.
  • Reward effort, not just good outcomes and seek to recognize players for unsuccessful effort.
  • Encourage players to set personal goals that are tied to effort.
  • Use encouragement and positive reinforcement as the primary method of motivating.
  • Provide criticism in a manner so players will be able to hear it, criticizing in private.
  • Encourage players to speak and contribute during team meetings;
  • Model honor, integrity, loyalty, and professionalism.
